Marketing projects Helps to Launch New state-of-the-art Hospital for London
A much needed, new 70-bed clinic that offers a complete mental health service for adults was opened in London on 12th December by former World Boxing Champion Frank Bruno.
Mental health affects one in three people in the UK and at any one time one adult in six suffers mental illness making it as common as asthma. Mental health issues range from more common conditions such as deep depression to schizophrenia, which affects less than one person in a hundred.
More people are affected by mental health issues than ever before and our approach to mental health care in the UK is changing. As a result this all inclusive, complete care facility has been developed, which is seen to be the leading edge approach to improving patient care and recovery for more severe cases of mental health problems.
Based in Lambeth, south London, patients at the Churchill mental health unit will benefit from complete treatment without the need to move to other clinics and the service will provide multi-level care, including psychiatric intensive care and rehabilitation with patients using secure ‘step-down’ beds.
Sayed Bel-Barco, group director of operations for Covenant Healthcare Group, said:
“Mental health services in England are experiencing a period of unprecedented change. We are delighted that all our planning over the last three years is now realised with the opening of this superb, state-of-the-art facility in London. The hospital is able to ease some of the pressure felt by existing, already stretched resources. It will really help the area.
Frank Bruno is a great ambassador for sport and we are especially pleased that he in particular is opening the clinic.”
Patients will arrive as NHS referrals at the hospital. Facilities include 15 Psychiatric Intensive Care Units (PICUs), 15 beds for ‘acute’ illness, 34 rehabilitation beds and the six step-down beds where patients can prepare to leave the hospital.
The hospital meets the needs for flexibility between the numbers of beds for both female and male patients. The length of stay for patients will also vary depending on patient needs.
