Diamond donation sparks celebration
GRAND national jockey Carrie Ford outbid all comers to gain a dazzling diamond donated by Waltons of Chester at a charity Ball.
The ½ carat colourless diamond, worth more than £2,000, was donated by Waltons of Chester for the Marie Curie Cancer Care Diamond Ball, which celebrated 60 years of the charity.
The event, held at the Chester Grosvenor Hotel, raised more than £12,000 for the charity. In 1948, Marie Curie Cancer Care was founded on the donation of a diamond engagement ring, which was sold for £75 at auction.
David Lee, Manager of Waltons of Chester Eastgate Street, said:
“This was a fantastic evening, raising a significant amount of money for Marie Curie Cancer Care. It was fitting that we donated a diamond, given the history of Marie Curie Cancer Care and also that this was the charity”s diamond anniversary."
More than 100 guests, including Adam Partridge of Bargain Hunt and Flog It, attended the event.
All proceeds from the Ball will go to the local Marie Curie nurses, who give people with terminal illnesses the choice to die at home supported by their families.
