Watch out James Bond

The name could be Bond, James Bond for English Language School student Rainer Kunz, who won a replica of the actual watch worn by Chester born super-spy Daniel Craig in the new Quantum of Solace film. Rainer won the bullet-proof Omega Seamaster watch which was donated by Waltons of Chester at the glittering black-tie advance screening of Quantum of Solace in the city on Thursday October 30.

One of the oldest jewellers in the country, Lowe & Sons, of Bridge Street, Chester will be appearing on ‘Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is’, starring antiques expert Eric Knowles, at 10am tomorrow (FRIDAY) on BBC1.

Jewellers toast a vintage occasion

Vintage watches, wine and cars were on display at the 17th Century Corks Out Crypt on Watergate Street, Chester. Waltons of Chester hosted the event, which celebrated traditional craftsmanship and all things vintage.

Records dating back to 1791 show that tumbler cups made by one of the UK’s oldest jewellers, Lowe & Sons were presented by the Earl of Grosvenor at Chester Races before trophies became fashionable. Tumblers will once again be provided for winning owners at Chester Racecourse at its new Midsummer evening fixture (FRIDAY JUNE 27).

Renaissance Venice came to Chester when an internationally renowned author celebrated the art of glassmaking at an exclusive reception in the city. More than 60 guests heard Marina Fiorato read from her bestselling novel The Glassblower of Murano and discuss Lalique’s crystalware. The event, supported by Lowe & Sons, was held at Chester Racecourse, where individual Lalique pieces worth more than £20,000 were among those on sale.

The Breitling Watches & Waltons of Chester Handicap Stakes was run at Chester Racecourse yesterday and won by 12-1 Bertoliver. Presenting the prizes to owners Kevin Conlan and Richard Carol and jockey Philip Robinson were Richard Blampied, the Managing Director of Waltons of Chester, Tim Bradley, the Northern Sales Manager of Breitling UK and Richard Hogben, the General Manager of Waltons of Chester.

Just over a year ago, Waltons of Chester appeared in BBC1’s CrimeWatch in a reconstruction of the robbery there in August 2006. Since then, the three robbers have been convicted at a hearing at Birmingham Crown Court, which ended last week. Waltons of Chester has made a major investment in increased security to their Eastgate shop, which has a new frontage.

One of the UK’s oldest jewellers which is based in Chester presented ledgers dating back to the eighteenth century, which were described as “priceless” by an expert on The Antiques Roadshow.
