The Magnificent Seven
Seven members of the sixth form at The Queen"s School are celebrating after being offered places at the universities of Oxford and Cambridge. Following rigorous interviews and additional tests as part of the admissions process, the students have gained places to read subjects ranging from mathematics and medicine to music, modern languages and philosophy.
Helen King of Chester (medicine), Rachael Lindsay of Chester (French and philosophy) and Charlotte Meara from Wrexham (modern languages) will study at the University of Oxford, whilst Charlotte Gowers of Chester ( mathematics), Tabatha Leggett from Wrexham (philosophy), Emily Tooke from Mold (modern languages) and Ruth Shannon of Chester (music) will take up places at Cambridge.
Queen"s School headmistress Mrs Catherine Buckley said:
“We are delighted for those girls who have won places at these prestigious universities. At Queen”s we have a long tradition of success in sending pupils to Oxbridge, beginning with two of the girls who entered the school on its opening day in 1878 and subsequently went on to study at Cambridge in the 1880s. Since then, gaining entry to Oxbridge colleges has become increasingly competitive, but I am thrilled that these students have maintained a tradition which stretches back over 120 years. They are extremely able young women and have worked very hard to earn their success."
