School girls' trip is out of this world
Year five pupils from The Queen’s Lower School recently had the chance to play at being astronauts for the day at the interactive Spaceport centre in Wallasey.
The group got to take a virtual tour through space in a 360 degrees Space Dome which helped to develop their understanding of the Earth, Sun and Moon.
The girls experimented with the varying degrees of gravity on different plants, and discovered what life would be like for astronauts in space along with how they train to prepare their bodies for the extreme conditions.
Harriet Alexander, 10, from Tarvin said:“This was a fantastic day! I loved it. It was so interesting. We learnt all about space and astronauts. I would love to go into space; I hope I can when I get older”.
Miss Gillian Platt, the Science leader at The Queen’s Lower School, said:
“It was an excellent opportunity to engage the girls in practical learning. They are a very capable group of girls and have enjoyed the experience immensely.”
The trip also included a Wallace and Gromit workshop which linked science, design, technology, ICT and history as well as a rocket ship experiment to take home.
