Queen's Student scoops top award
A former Queen’s student studying at Cambridge University has been awarded a prestigious academic scholarship.
19-year-old Sarah Burgess from Chester is in her first year of reading Natural Sciences, and one of a very small number of students in her year to be awarded the Rowley Mainhood Award for outstanding academic potential.
Sarah proved her academic credentials by gaining 5 A*’s at A level in last summer’s examinations which enabled her to be eligible for the award.
Sarah said:
“I was thrilled that Emmanuel decided to recognise my academic achievements at school. I have decided to put the money towards spending next summer conducting scientific research in one of the laboratories in Cambridge to gain some vital experience.”
Commenting on Sarah’s achievement, the Headmistress of The Queen’s School, Sarah Clark, said:
“We were delighted when Sarah told us that she had gained the Rowley Mainhood Award. Her teachers who have supported her throughout her time here at school were thrilled to hear of her success. Sarah was Deputy Head Girl in year 13 and also showed her ability to balance her academic studies with a wide variety of extra-curricular activities too. She was able to continue her passion for dancing and plays the oboe to an exceptional level. We wish her the greatest success in her future.”
