Queen's pay respects for Holocaust Memorial Day
Year nine pupils from The Queen’s School travelled to Nottingham last week to visit the Beth Shalom Centre and pay their respects in time for Holocaust Memorial Day.
The girls travelled to Newark to further their understanding on the subject and to remember those who lost their lives as part of the Memorial Day which takes place on January 27th each year.
The girls placed a stone upon the Memorial for children who did not survive the Holocaust and had the opportunity to hear from Holocaust survivor Ruth David who escaped Nazi Germany on the Kindertrain.
13-year-old Isobel Jones said:
“Ruth was so inspirational, I don’t think I will ever forget her story and although it was upsetting we all learned a lot from her.”
Isobel continued:
“I thought that the tribute we all made with the stone was very moving and gave us a chance to remember all those who were killed.”
The Year nine pupils are currently studying the Holocaust in their history lessons at school.
