Queen's girls Chinese dance class for New Year
The Queen’s School’s new Hanban teacher, Mrs Jiang Chen has introduced Peacock Dance Classes to Friday afternoons.
The Peacock Dance, which is native to the Dai ethnic minority group in China, incorporates the movements of the peacock and the fish with playful and peaceful music.
Mrs Chen said:
“Learning the Dai dance will enhance the girls understanding of the richness and the diversity of Chinese culture. It will also help to improve the girls’ bodily coordination as well as develop a balance between their mind and body.”
Dai people live in a beautiful part of China along the Southwest coast. Jiang Chen is from this region was brought up under the influence of a nature loving culture.
Chester’s Queen’s School is the only independent school in the north of England to be officially recognised for the excellence of its work in promoting the study of Mandarin Chinese. The school was awarded the coveted accolade of being designated a Confucius Classroom by the Office of Chinese Language Council International – otherwise known as Hanban, and under the umbrella of the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust’s Confucius Institute.
