Queen's girl navigates her way to victory
A girl from Chester has recently won first place at the National Cadet Orienteering Championships, which saw 285 competitors race for the title.
17-year-old Colour Sergeant Victoria Davies, who is currently undertaking her A Levels at The Queen’s School, took first place in the Senior Female Event with a time of 39 minutes and 35 seconds, almost six minutes ahead of the next competitor.
Victoria said:
“I love orienteering. It’s a mental challenge as well as a physical one, and even though it’s an individual sport, there’s great team spirit. It was really nice to win something in my last year – a great experience!”
Two other Queen’s School girls also took part in the Championships which were held at Warcop Camp in Cumbria. Lance Corporal Ankita Sahni, 16, from Chester, and Cadet Elizabeth Wood Bowyer, 15, from Wrexham, took second place along with Victoria in the team event.
Ms Julietta Anglesea, Public Examinations Officer, who prepared the three girls for the championship said she was delighted with the girls, continuing:
“We have great hope of more medal places next year now the girls have shown how well they have picked up the tricky skills of map reading whilst running!”
