No debate over Queen's School winners
Chester Debating Society’s annual Inter Schools Debate was won this year by The Queen’s School in a final against The King’s School.
Queen’s School girls proposed the Motion “This House believes that parents should be responsible for serious crimes committed by their children”, and Kat Lewis age 16 from Wrexham and Caroline Turner age 17 from Wirral ensured that the motion carried. Much spirited debate ensued from the audience in the Quaker Meeting Rooms on Frodsham Street in Chester, with opinion divided as to the degree of responsibility that parents should shoulder for their children’s actions.
Both girls are committed members of Queen’s Senior Debating Society and Miss Stockton, Head of English who oversees debating at Queen’s said “I am very impressed with the quality of their arguments and their confident, engaging, witty delivery.”
Speaking after the debate Mrs Sarah Clark, Headmistress of Queen’s commented: “I thought that the students who spoke in this debate showed maturity, intellectual rigor and passion for their arguments. It was a pleasure to see these young people engage with fundamental principles of legal rights and responsibilities to this degree.”
