Concert Pianist Visits Queen's
Internationally renowned and respected pianist Malcolm Binns visited The Queen’s School in Chester last Tuesday to give a masterclass to music students and a public concert at the school in the evening for Charity.
Malcolm Binns is known as a ’pianist’s pianist’, he has played concertos in the last night of the Proms and recorded extensively. A number of A Level music students at the school enjoyed meeting and performing with him and hearing his experiences and advice on their performances.
Mrs Rebecca Broome, Head of Music said: “I am extremely proud of how well Anna, Shreya and Áine performed. Taking part in a master class is a fantastic opportunity, though it can be a daunting experience working with a concert pianist such as Malcolm Binns. The girls handled the advice like true professionals, it was a delight watching them all work together.”
Year 12 music student Áine Jackson age 18 from Chester is preparing to study music at Oxford. She added; “It was an excellent opportunity to work with a pianist of Malcolm’s calibre. He gave us lots of advice about ways to perform our pieces as well as giving insight to the music of Chopin and Debussy.”
His evening ‘virtuoso’ performance included works by Beethoven, Schumann, Liszt and Chopin. Proceeds from the charity concert went to Christ Church Community Centre in Higher Bebington.
