Teacher Tucker exhibits work of weather and light
A Chester art teacher is preparing his artwork for inclusion in a number of high profile exhibitions across the UK. Head of Art at The Queen’s School, Alistair Tucker will first display his work during April in the Architects Gallery in London. He will also exhibit at the Wrexham International Print exhibition and the Chapel in Llangollen. In July he will be exhibiting alongside two other artists in the Lichfield Arts Festival.

As soon as the Queen’s School Parents’ Association had decided on the target of providing the pupils with additional transport, a committee of parents began planning their fund-raising activities.

Golden girl leads from the front
Queen"s School sixth former, Libby Anderson, has made history by becoming the first ever female Cadet Company Sergeant Major in the King"s and Queen"s Combined Cadet Force. Five years after she joined the contingent, Libby will now lead the Army Section of the CCF- the first time that a young woman has held that position in the more than 20 year existence of the schools" cadet force.

Monday 26th January was the first day of the Spring Festival, better known in the West as Chinese New Year. Girls at Queen"s Lower and Senior Schools learned about the legend behind the 12 animals in the zodiac and about the characteristics they themselves are meant to display, depending on the year they are born. Girls who are studying Mandarin also performed a traditional song to celebrate the occasion. In the Chinese calendar the year is 4707.

A party of 20 girls from The Queen"s School, Chester, has returned from a trip to New York with bulging bags and stories of a superb visit to the “Big Apple”. The Queen"s School Chamber Choir under their conductor Rebecca O"Keefe gave an outstanding performance at an evening of Christmas music and readings to raise funds for the NSPCC. Held by kind permission of their Graces the Duke and Duchess of Westminster at Eaton Chapel, the evening also marked the world premiere of “Gloria” by Jeanette Healey, a piece written especially for Queen"s Chamber Choir.

Year Two girls at the Queen’s Lower School recently took on the roles of junior firefighters at the Chester Fire Station. Everyone took their turn to climb aboard a fire engine and pretend they were off on a ‘shout’. The girls were fascinated to see all the protective clothing which is required to keep fire fighters safe and all the equipment that is carried for emergencies.

Students from two Chester schools spent an exhilarating half-term break in China, studying Mandarin and learning about Chinese culture. Pupils from The Queen"s School and Upton High School flew to Beijing where they met up with other groups from the UK for an Autumn Camp and spent three days visiting the main sights of the Chinese capital. As well as the Great Wall, the Forbidden City and the Summer Palace, they were also able to admire the buildings designed specially for this summer"s Olympic Games. The Bird"s Nest Stadium and the Water Cube are now firmly established as part of the tourist trail and the students were able to enjoy a stunning light and water spectacular in the Water Cube.

The Queen’s School, Chester, Cheshire is one of the country’s leading independent schools offering the highest standard of education for girls from ages 4 – 18.
Since their inception, The Queen’s School has always been at or near the top of the league tables. In the latest Government league tables published in January 2005, Queen’s is again ranked as the top school in Cheshire based on both GCSE and A/AS level results.
Academic success is only one aspect of life at Queen’s. The Queen’s School and its staff encourage all girls to participate in a wide range of extra-curricular activities; these include drama clubs, plays and musicals, cabaret evenings, choirs and orchestras, a variety of sports such as tennis, lacrosse, football, athletics and gymnastics as well as a science club, an equine club and the Friday club which involves girls helping in the community. There is also the chance to travel with the school on adventure holidays, foreign treks, scientific research expeditions, French and German exchanges and skiing trips.
Founded in 1878, the school was given its name four years later by command of Queen Victoria and is proud to remain the only school in the country to have been granted the name The Queen’s School by royal decree. The school has a number of bursaries available to students. Mrs Catherine Buckley is the present headmistress of The Queen’s School. Mrs Felicity Taylor is head of the Lower School on Liverpool Road.
Past pupils include Beth Tweddle, Olympic Gymnast, Sarah Kelly founder of the UK’s Neuromuscular Centre for muscular dystrophy and Vivienne Faull, the first woman to become Dean of an English Cathedral.
