The Recorder of Chester Judge Elgan Edwards held a very different Court to the Crown Court he is used to presiding over. Judge Edwards spoke in Chester Cathedral’s unique Consistory Court; the only old Church Court to have survived in the country, on the significance of the Courts and their history. More than 30 people were in attendance on Monday night including the Monks involved in the St.Werburgh Pilgrimage, which reaches its climax on June 17 to 21. The Monks will walk 70 miles from Hanbury in Staffordshire to Chester Cathedral, based on the Translation of St.Werbugh’s Relics over the same route 1,100 years ago in 907.

Ten monks donned their habits and set off from St. Peter’s Church, Chester today, as part of the St.Werburgh Festival which celebrates 1,100 years of the translation of the Relics of St.Werburgh. Chester’s Town Crier Julie Mitchell stood at The Cross and declared the emergence of the monks; featuring Cedric the Conversi aka David Pickering, from the Church, down the steps and through the city streets. The monks then walked around the city walls before having lunch at The Albion.

Marketing PRojects took care of the press relations for St. Werburgh Festival in 2007.
The St.Werburgh Festival commemorated the return of the Saint’s bones from Hanbury in Staffordshire to Chester Cathedral, based on an event that occurred in 907. The pinnacle of the Festival was a pilgrimage from Hanbury in Staffordshire to Chester, which culminated in a choral service at Chester Cathedral.
David Pickering, chairman of the Festival, led the walkers as ‘Cedric the Conversus.’ The Festival was a journey through history and culture, bringing together Viking camps, lectures about St Werburgh at the University of Chester and performances of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Marketing PRojects objective was to raise awareness amongst residents, schools and tourists about the festival.
Results
Marketing PRojects managed to raise the festival’s profile. The activities involved writing up press releases, taking pictures, managing the website of press relations and contacting the media.
