Pizza Idols announced for 2011
Talented young chefs have won their five way cook offs to have their pizzas on the menu at The Ring O’Bells in Christleton. Children from Christleton and Waverton Primary schools battled for the coveted titles last week.
More than 120 children from Christleton and Waverton Primary Schools entered the competition and all ten shortlisted pizzas selected by the schools were tasted by the judges, parents and children last Friday at the Christleton pub.
Waverton’s winner was Anya Walsh a Year 2 pupil with ’Anya’s Korma Surprize’ featuring chicken, korma sauce, chillies, spring onion, red and green peppers, coconut and saltanas.
The new adults menu winner from Christleton Primary School was Isabelle Hodgson aged 4 from reception class. Her pizza was topped with ham, pepperoni, sun-dried tomatoes, olives and mushrooms.
The new kids menu winner from Christleton Primary School was Claudia Lovering aged 8 from year 3. Her gammon and pineapple pizza added an egg in the middle ‘sunny side up’.
Ian Wade, owner of Modern British Taverns, said:
“Well done to all of the children who entered – there were some fantastic ideas and it was a very difficult decision to pick a winner. A big thank you to David Harker, the Head at Christleton Primary School and Sue Buckley, Deputy Head of Waverton Primary for helping to organise this special event.”
Head Chef, Andy King added;
“Any of the pizzas we tasted could have made it onto the menu, they were all winners. The standard from both Schools was extremely high. We’ve given a special commendation to Sophie Bridgewater from Class 5 at Waverton Primary School. Her Dessert Delight pizza with chocolate, marshmallows, smarties and chocolate chips may well make it onto the menu too once we’ve adapted the pizza base!”
Anya Walsh said: “I can’t wait to see my pizza on the menu and taste it again.”
The new pizzas will appear on the Spring Summer menu launched on 16th May.
The Ring O’Bells was recently commended at the 2011 Chester Food, Drink & Lifestyle Awards in the Family Friendly Award, winning the Best Pub category.
