More Please! Waverton Primary goes to Italy for a day
Waverton Primary School held a multicultural week when children experienced food and activities from all over the World.
The Ring O’Bells in Christleton was called in to provide an Italian experience with their famous pizzas. Pupils eagerly awaited the specially baked pizzas served by staff, amongst the flags and banners of Italy.
Other activities throughout the week included: Origami demonstrations from Yoshi, Fair Trade products from And Albert, Irish dancing and pipes with Cormack, creating a huge Welsh dragon with artist and parent Wendy Connelly, making Terracotta Army soldiers with retired Headteacher Mrs Nield, a French Restaurant with Mr Friend and Caribbean drumming and storytelling with Winston Lewis. The whole school dressed in international costumes of each pupil’s choice and Mr Nu’u, a member of staff, led a Maori Haka dance. They also got to see the results of the artwork from pupils throughout the week.
Sue Buckley, Deputy Head at Waverton Primary said:
“This is the eighth year we have held this multicultural arts week for the children to celebrate cultural diversity and it keeps getting better and better. Ian Wade and his team at the Ring O’Bells did a great job helping us create an Italian restaurant in our entrance hallway/Library and all the children really enjoyed the pizzas, they were very popular.”
Ian Wade, owner of Modern British Taverns which runs The Ring O’Bells, added;
“We are always keen to support community initiatives like this and it was great to see everyone having such fun in our little corner of Italy for the day whilst they learnt all about different cultures. We were asked to be involved as our pizzas have a great reputation, especially on a Wednesday when they are 2-4-1!. Look out for some great new toppings on our Spring Summer menu launched on 16th May.”

Ring O’Bells
• ‘Time’ was called at the Ring O’Bells in Christleton in 2008 when successful local pub entrepreneurs Ian and Karine Wade of Modern British Taverns transformed the celebrated Christleton landmark at the heart of one of Cheshire’s Best Kept Villages. The Ring O’Bells is now at the centre of village life as well as being a destination pub for great surroundings, great food and great hospitality.
• The interior has been completely revamped and remodelled with an improved, more welcoming layout. There are big changes to the menu, superb wines and guest beers, much more excitement and a real reason to come inside.
• New Spring menu with local produce available.
