Little Italy comes to Christleton
The Ring O’ Bells in Christleton village centre became ‘Little Italy’ on Thursday night when it was twinned with the Blu Bar in Marzocca, Italy.
Exchange trips have taken place for many years between the residents of Marzocca a small Italian town on the outskirts of Senigallia, East of Rome and Florence on the Adriatic Coast and with Christleton, encouraged as a result of twinning between Senigallia and Chester.
They have been arranged by Christleton resident Susan Jones who has worked hard at establishing and maintaining close relations with this delightful town and its warm and friendly residents.
Now a plaque adorns the wall outside the Ring O’Bells formally acknowledging the close relationship between the two villages. After an introductory few words by Susan Jones, a speech in English and Italian was made by Mr John Scrivener, a member of the exchange group and Marco Quattrini owner of the Blu Bar in Marzocca.
The unveiling of the twinning plaque was followed by an Italian buffet, with wines from the region and entertainment from a group of musicians who had travelled especially for the occasion from Marzocca.
Ian Wade, owner of Modern British Taverns, said:
“This was the culmination of work by a lot of people here and in Italy to ensure town twinning is kept alive and meaningful for residents in both locations. The pizzas at the Ring O’Bells met with the Italians’ full approval! Italian students regularly visit Chester and I know many Christleton and Chester residents have enjoyed the wine and food festivals and events held around Marzocca. I know a number of trips are planned for the Autumn.”
