A Vision of Chester
An award-winning conservation architect passed on his business knowledge to more than 20 young professionals at a networking event in Chester.
With more than 35 years of working in Chester, James Brotherhood, talked about the current financial climate for professionals, as well as giving an entertaining brief history of Chester. The Novus event was held for the first time at Chester City Club in St. Peter’s Churchyard and Mr Brotherhood, a past President of Chester City Club, also explained about the history of the Club, which dates from 1807 and is one of the oldest Clubs in Britain still in its original premises.
Mr Brotherhood, who designed The Steam Mill, Telford’s Warehouse, Rufus Court and The New Commercial Inn in Chester, is a former NW Chairman of the RIBA, who featured in Prince Charles’s A Vision of Britain television programme.
Thomas Pearson, DTM Legal Partner, who also attended the very first Novus event seven years ago, said:
“This was a well organised event with lively attendees at an interesting venue. The speaker knew his subject and presented well. It was great to meet colleagues and some new faces.”
Novus holds Quarterly networking events at venues in Chester city centre.

Notes to editors:
Novus was conceived to provide a channel for young people to experience the benefits of building and developing networking skills. The networking group held its inaugural event in November 2002. The inspiration for Novus came from a realization that although there were plenty of organisations aimed at networking already present in Chester, there was a distinct lack of ‘young’ professionals attending. Novus helps those who are at the beginning of their professional careers, in need of support and valuable contacts, to help ‘fast forward’ their careers.
Novus also enables young professionals to hear from invited guests with successful careers and learn from their business experiences and expertise. This both inspires and enables their own personal and business development.
Most importantly, Novus concentrates on making any event relaxed and sociable where young professionals can chill out and be themselves.
Membership of Novus is limited to 500 and is free. However, it is by recommendation and referral only. Each event is designed by organizers Marketing Projects to break even. Speakers are leading luminaries from business who generously share secrets of their success with Novus.
The previous Novus event was held at Corks Out in Watergate Street, with Colin Potts, of Destination Focus, as guest speaker.
