Looking at the Future of Business Training
Experts in business training and learning led a debate about the skills required in industry in the future during an event hosted by the University of Chester.
Held at Chester Business School, the forum, which was organised by the Institute of Directors (IoD) Cheshire, included a panel of speakers with experience of cutting-edge learning, including e-learning and leadership training.
Entitled, Plugging the Gap: Future Skills and Learning, the panel discussed how prepared the North West was in terms of training and learning needed for employers and employees.
Katrina Delargy, Educational Liaison Officer for the IoD in the North West, explains: “With increasing pressures on time and costs, businesses need to understand how to acquire and transfer knowledge and skills quickly and effectively. Business and education can help each other.”
Chairman of the Cheshire branch of the IoD, Nick Robinson, added: “If we want Britain to thrive, we must raise the level of participation of business in the educational debate. When Business does get involved, the evidence shows that aspirations, achievement and the relevance of skills and education are improved.”
Among the panel of renowned speakers was Barrie Oxtoby, Visiting Professor at the University and an expert in action learning, which encourages managers to improve their organisations through structured peer group discussions.
Other guests included Robert Leggert, Managing Director of Omni RMS Ltd, based in Altrincham, and Fiona Leteney, Managing Director of Feenix E-Learning, which helps organisations use e-learning as part of their development programmes, with clients from both the public and private sectors.
Dean of the School of Business Management and Law, Professor Des Hickie said: “The Chester Business School greatly appreciates its close links with the Institute of Directors. We were glad to host such a successful evening with stimulating speakers and challenging debate.”
