Business Leaders - Today and Tomorrow
MBA students across the region met business leaders recently to hear what they need for a successful career in business in the North West. The networking reception was sponsored by the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) and organised by the Institute of Directors (IoD).
MBA students from the region’s top business schools were invited and over 200 attended from across the North West. They saw and took part in a panel discussion of North West business leaders chaired by broadcaster, Mark Edwardson.
Steven Broomhead, Chief Executive of the NWDA thanked the IoD for organising the first event of this kind in the North West. He added; “The North West needs to retain people like yourselves here in the North West. It is important for sustainable growth for the region, the business schools and students play an important part in this.”
The panel of business leaders was Moneeb Awan of eSay Solutions, Sean Beech of Deloitte, Della Bradshaw, education correspondent at the FT, Sat Dhaiwal, CEO of A-Plant, Sally Toumi of recruitment specialists Stark Brooks and Andrew Tinkler, chairman of W A Developments International / Eddie Stobart Ltd. They talked about what key qualities they looked for, about doing business in the North West and why they stayed here, the opportunities for MBAs and their experiences.
Students across the North West really appreciated that the networking reception had been put together for them. Most had come to the stadium on coaches organised by the business schools.
Siobhan Clarke of Manchester Business School said afterwards; “The event has been very useful. With an MBA you have to build good relationships with potential employers, students have to make their own success. Events like this really help and also open our eyes to the opportunities in the North West.”
Mark Briegal a recent MBA now with legal firm Betesh Fox & Co added; "The event was very thought provoking with some interesting views from the panel and lively debates. It was exceptionally useful for making contacts both on the business and student side."
The IoD plans to build on the success of this event for next year.
