Top Banana Trumps for School Leavers
Catering expert Cucina has developed a series of menu cards to help students cook healthy, wholesome and appetising meals after they leave school.
Cucina is serving fresh food to more than 25,000 pupils at 30 contracts up and down the country. Food experts there have developed more than 20 Top Trump recipe cards for school leavers, who are now enjoying the benefits of cool cooking. Recipes include a breakfast salad with baked bean dressing for starter, roast pork ravioli dinner for main and chocolate and beetroot brownie with yoghurt ice cream for dessert.
The cards have been produced as part of the student’s ongoing development with Cucina, who offer innovative, educational elements to their catering. Students learn about cuisine from different parts of the world and Cucina helps 6th formers prepare to cook for themselves when they go to live on their own. The portions which are recommended on the Top Banana Trumps serve at least four people and there are no more than 10 steps to make recipes quick and simple.
Ian Morgan, Cucina Executive Head Chef, said:
“We wanted to teach students how to cook some simple quality dishes to impress their partners and flatmates so we developed Cucina’s Top Trump recipes. Students just pop one or two Top Trumps in their pockets when they go shopping and sneakily refer to them to create a meal back at their digs by slipping the cards in and out of their jeans when their mates aren’t looking……hence top banana!! The aim is to provide the students with the coolest cookery book in the world. We are hopeful that we might encourage the next generation of Ramsay’s and Marco’s!!”
School leavers will be presented with Cucina’s Top Trump cards, which are designed to be swapped and shared with friends.
Cucina’s professional and innovative approach includes appointing a Head Chef to oversee each site and offering an educational food service which links the classroom to the kitchen. The new Cucina restaurants include theatre including pizza ovens and a new service pod at The Basildon Academy, where breakfast and after school meals can be bought in addition to the Cucina Menu.
