Quartet of Academy wins for Cucina
Cucina has won a three-year contract with Highdown School and Sixth Form Centre in Berkshire, which became an independently run Academy in November last year after being judged outstanding by OFSTED. Cucina won a competitive pitch that was shortlisted to four suppliers for the contract at Highdown School and Sixth Form Centre in Reading, which has 1344 pupils, aged 11 to 18. Among it’s Academies across England, Cucina also delivers fresh food to The Basildon Academy in Essex, The Harefield Academy in Middlesex and The Bushey Academy in Hertfordshire.
Highdown School and Sixth Form Centre has a Victorian walled kitchen garden and following in the footsteps of the herb garden created by Cucina at The Bushey Academy, it is hoped that a vegetable and herb garden will also be developed at Highdown, showing Cucina’s emphasis on fresh and locally sourced food, as well as helping the students to understand not only about improved flavour but also about food provenance. Cucina also plans to employ a garden ambassador to oversee the garden at Highdown, ensuring their skills are passed on to the pupils and that best practice is exchanged between Cucina’s 30 restaurants up and down the country.
Cucina Managing Director Steve Quinn said:
“We are delighted to have won this contract against such strong competition. Our partnership vision with the school will provide cross-curriculum support whilst also ensuring that students can access high quality and innovative food, delivered at a consistently high standard and a fair price. The freshness of our foods surpasses the quality of many high street restaurants and we are looking to significantly increase usage, with increases of more than three fold being commonplace at many of our new restaurants.”
Cucina Restaurants Ltd. serves fresh food to more than 25,000 pupils and is committed to providing quality, healthy meals at all schools.
