Preparations are under foot for a larger than life celebration in Chester. Gigantic effigies created by the public will tower over thousands of spectators from around the country as they process through Chester during The Midsummer Watch Parade. The event takes place in the historic Roman city every year to mark the summer solstice. This year will be the biggest yet with an extended family of more than 30 giants, The BiG Giant Parade, joining the festivities led by the Lord Mayor of Chester Councillor John Ebo on June 20th & 21st.

Romans walking with giants this weekend
Two city icons are coming together across the centuries as part of the roman festival of Minerva. The free festival will take place on Sunday, 31st May from 11am to 5pm, with a whole day of events taking place at Minerva’s Shrine in Edgar’s Field, Handbridge just over the Old Dee Bridge.

In a modern take on an ancient ritual, Chester has given birth to the first ‘Terabyte’ giant. Emilia Bartlett, 13, from Flint won a competition held by BiG Storage and Dee 106.3 to draw her interpretation of a terabyte, a digital unit that represents a gigantic amount of data.

Giant Makers and all that Jazz
Budding creatives are invited to rise to the challenge on Monday, 30th March. Alexander’s Jazz Bar in Rufus Court, Northgate St, Chester at 5.30pm will be the venue for anyone interested in giant making and its traditions, or for the ‘just plain curious’. Chester has a long tradition of giant making and the challenge thrown up by the organisers is no tall order.

Marketing PRojects took care of the press relations for Chester The Giant City in 2008 and 2009.
Chester – The Giant City Community Interest Company was created to unite the private, public and third sector around the physical and metaphorical concept of giants. The company draws upon the culture and heritage of the city and surrounds to create vibrant and innovative social, environmental and economic opportunities for communities.
Objectives for the PR brief were to increase the footfall of visitors and residents to the City centre.
Results
Marketing PRojects created and published 8 press releases and contacted 352 trade press, 80 local, regional and freelancers.
