Dramatic entry for young playwrights
A Million Shades of Pink, the new play from a team of eleven young Cheshire playwrights was performed in Chester to glowing reviews recently.
Abigayle Langford, Alex Thompson, Anoush Mortazavi, Bianka Hannam, Callum Eager, Cavan Shakespeare, Ellie Rowland, Jacob Harding Jessica Anderson, Louise Gore and Menna Watkins worked collectively with professional writer, Kevin Dyer since January on this exciting Chester Performs / Action Transport Theatre project. Many had never done anything like this before.
The budding dramatists from Chester, Ellesmere Port, Little Sutton and North Wales saw their play performed by professional actors at Molloy Hall, University of Chester. The play formed part of Chester Oyez!, Shell Chester Literature Festival"s performance weekend.
A Million Shades of Pink explored themes of love, betrayal and growing up. Each performance was followed by a post show discussion in which audience members were invited to ask questions of both the actors and the writers.
Audience comments included:
“Excellent! Thought provoking.”
“Amazing quality of work produced in a seemingly short time. Well done to all involved. “Very truthful and very funny.”
“Very engaging. Scarily authentic and universal.”
“The world is in safe hands with these young people and so the next generation. A truly inspiring evening. Thank you.”
Amber Knipe, Chester Performs Project Coordinator, said:
“It was exciting to watch the play evolve and take form. The sessions with Kevin Dyer were a great sounding board for the writers to try out their ideas. Everyone worked really hard to create this piece of theatre, which addresses self image and how we change ourselves on the outside to redefine ourselves on the inside. Strong messages came out of the process and the actors kept the script in hand to remind the audience that the play came from a text in development. Bedroom and dolls props created a strong sense of childhood and mirrored the ideas of “plastics perfection” that were explored by the characters."
Plans for the play and future initiatives are unknown. For further information about this and other Action Transport Theatre and Chester Performs project please contact Amber Knipe on 01244 409113 www.chesterperforms.com / www.actiontransporttheatre.co.uk

Background
A Million Shades of Pink is a (very) truthful, (very) funny play about love, betrayal and growing up (very) fast. It is the story of a teenage girl who on the last day of school decides to change her life. She dumps her long-time best friend to spend time with Kayleigh. This is a play about self-image and how we change our outsides in an attempt to redefine what we are inside.
