Artists go Up The Wall

A musical milk float, an interactive video projection, a swarm of insect lanterns and a “world of wool” are just some of the artworks and performance pieces featuring in this year"s Up The Wall, which takes place between 7pm and 10pm on Thursday 2nd, Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th October.

This evening promenade, created by Chester Performs is a celebration of the city walls in light sound and art.
“Up The Wall is a tremendous event which really drew people”s imagination last year. It was so special because Chester at night is a magical place. With art and light adding to the magic we all saw (or the 3,500 who made the trip) the walls, one of the City"s most famous features, in an entirely different light. Not to stay still, we"ve changed the route to include both the walls and the cathedral, and the cloisters in particular. Even more now we are playing upon architecture and light in a way that will inspire Up The Wall promenaders of all ages. We are hoping that the event will become a must see date in everyone"s diaries for this year and many more to follow"; Andrew Bentley, Chester Performs" Project Manager
Audiences are encouraged to join the route at Abbey Square where they will be welcomed by Toneflote, a full-fat mutant musical milkfloat and Cinetaxis, a large scale video projection, created by world renowned artists SDNA. Continue along the route and you"ll come across a range of insect light sculptures produced by local artists Russell Kirk, and a “world made of wool” developed by Chester based artist Lindsay Evans and community group, Save the Family. Other artists include, Jacqueline McCormick from Cheshire Dance, musical collective Frakture from Liverpool and Chester"s very own VJ Germ, Gemma Briers presents an interactive video installation on the Cathedral Green.

Up the Wall is a fully accessible family friendly event. Take as little or as much time as you need but be sure not to miss out on this autumnal, twilight promenade along and around some of Chester"s unique historical features. Be sure to pick up your special treat at the end…
