Cheshire's One Earth grows global

A long weekend dedicated to environmental issues kicks off in Cheshire on Sunday July 8, following the global Live Earth event.

Musical superstars aim to tackle climate crisis with a series of Live Earth concerts taking place across the planet on Saturday July 7 and if you are inspired by the environment Cheshire is holding a free family day called "One Earth’ the day afterwards at Grosvenor Park in Chester. One Earth will be packed with arts, crafts, science, technology and fun and the two-day Cheshire Festival includes a series of seminars and workshops for schools and businesses across the county on Monday July 9.

The Cheshire One Earth event on Sunday will have six themed Marquees covering every aspect of environmental activity including food and drink, sustainable communities, wildlife, natural and cultural heritage, environmental arts and crafts and global issues, such as Fair Trade and climate change.

There will also be face painting, a birds of prey display, strolling musicians and arts and crafts activities, such as recycled jewellery and dragonfly making. The many artists in attendance will run short, themed workshops in the Marquees and the Artists’ Village, where children will be able to create pieces of environmental art to take away and discover ideas for Summer holiday activities.

Jan Shone, of Cheshire Wildlife Trust, said:

“One Earth is a great day for children and adults to discover and be inspired about the environment, with the emphasis throughout on having as much fun as possible. With the support of new partners Made in Cheshire, Epplus, Going Carbon Neutral, Chester in Partnerships and Cheshire County Council, we’ll be able to increase our environmental celebrations and raise awareness of environmental issues within Cheshire.”

This year’s celebrations guarantee to be truly bigger and better as more partners join founders Cheshire Wildlife Trust and Chester City Council and more activities are planned. As a result the Festival, which was known as Only One Earth, has been given the new title of One Earth – this is the 12th year of the event at Grosvenor Park.
One Earth is a free family event starting at 11am to 5pm on July 8 at Grosvenor Park, Chester.
