Simon at Chester for the Easter Weekend
TV chef Simon Rimmer packed in record audiences at the Taste Festival on Bank Holiday Monday.
The sun continued to shine, as Simon, who appears on Something for the Weekend, treated the Chester Racecourse audience to two culinary demonstrations.
Simon, who owns Greens in Manchester and Earle in Hale, cooked steak tartare, turbot stew with mussels in a creamy sauce and banana tarte tatin for the Chester crowd. In his second demonstration, Simon cooked a pea and pancetta lasagne, a rump of lamb with a potato scone and beetroot salsa and a melted chocolate pudding for dessert.
Simon, who has cooked at the Chester Festival for the last five years, said:
“Chester Food and Drink Festival is fantastic and one of my favourite Food Festivals, which is going from strength to strength. The food and drink we have in the North West is the best you will find anywhere.”
Stephen Wundke, Chairman of the Chester Food and Drink Festival, added:
“We’ve had a superb three days here in Chester and what a way to finish it off with Simon Rimmer. Simon is a favourite of ours, who was kind enough to support this Festival in the early days. Simon is a friend of the Festival and without him we would not be able to hold a Food and Drink Festival.”
Celebrity chef Brian Mellor, of Claremont Farm, Wirral, who was head judge in the Young Chef Competition, also gave a demonstration cooking a fillet of brill, with tomato broth and rocket.
The first person on the Chester stage on Bank Holiday Monday was One Pot Cook Off Champion, Dave Purcell, who cooked his tender lamb casserole. Domestic chef Dave’s sensational stew won the second annual One Pot Cook Off, which was held at the Macdonald Hill Valley Hotel Golf & Spa, Whitchurch.
Dave, 52, an educational welfare officer for Halton Borough Council, cooked his lamb casserole for the first time in front of an audience of hundreds of people.
Kate Halewood, General Manager for The Macdonald Hill Valley Hotel, Golf & Spa, added:
“We are showcasing the way that Macdonald Hotels use local produce. Macdonald Hotel’s philosophy is to use sustainable food stocks. The One Pot Cook Off is a fantastic competition and we will commit to a third year.”
Chester’s Food and Drink Festival is sponsored by Chester Racecourse and PR consultancy, Marketing Projects.
