Angel gives her blessing to Festival
The Chester Food and Drink Festival has appointed its first Ambassador for 2009. Food fan Angel Burton is six years old and a pupil of Merton House School, Abbot’s Park, Chester.
Stephen Wundke, Chairman of the Festival, said:
“We are delighted to have Angel and her school representing us this year. Angel is the epitome of what our Food and Drink Festival is all about. She loves her food, will try anything put in front of her and really understands how using local produce helps not just her and her family but the environment and the local economy. I applaud Merton House for its interest in such an important subject and thank the school and Angel for their support. We have one more ambassador appointment to make which we will be announcing very shortly.”
Angel and the Merton House School were recently seen on national TV at the Chester Cheese Rolling event held last week in which Angel delivered the ceremonial Joseph Heler Cheese, to the Lord Mayor, which signifies the start of the Cheese Rolling and the arrival of Food and Drink season in Chester.
In the lead up to the Food and Drink Festival, there will be events in and around the city, including the One Pot Cook off, The “Chester Pie” competition and Alice in Wonderland and the Great Easter egg Hunt. The popular Cocktail Competition will also return at new venue Cruise nightclub, St. John Street, Chester, where the city’s finest bartenders will shake up the crowd with smooth talking and strong liqueurs.
The Taste Pavilion is the focal point of the festival and takes place from the 11th -13th April at Chester Racecourse. There will be more than 80 food producers and cooking demonstrations featuring Simon Rimmer, Andrew Nutter and Alan Coxon. Tickets are £6 for adults and children under 12 are free. Parking is also free for all visitors to the event at the Racecourse.
