Ice cold competition

The best bartenders in Chester stirred the crowds at Cruise Nightclub, St John Street, Chester in the Chester Food & Drink Festival Cocktail Competition, sponsored by drinks distributors Maxxium UK. 13 mixologists competed with content, presentation, taste and flair and all of the contestants served plenty of stage patter with their drinks.

Shortlist for Food and Drink Awards

Restaurants, cafes, pubs and bars have been shortlisted for the Chester Food & Drink Festival 2009. The annual Food & Drink Awards will be presented at a glittering Gala Awards Dinner at The Pavilion at Chester Racecourse on Wednesday April 15.

BBC2 has delayed the deadline to April 13 for entries for the latest series of The Restaurant enabling a visit by the production team to Chester’s Food & Drink Festival on Easter weekend.

A real life Indiana Jones of the culinary world takes to the Chester celebrity kitchen stage to give cookery demonstrations at this year’s Taste Festival.

A domestic master chef delivered a sensational stew to carry off the pot and the title after a sizzling competition. The second annual One Pot Cook Off Champion is Dave Purcell, following a cook off held at the Macdonald Hill Valley Hotel Golf & Spa. The annual event highlights the passion Macdonald Hotels has in sourcing the best seasonal and local food available for its customers, with the event kick-starting the eighth annual Chester Food and Drink Festival.

Hat-trick of wins for Best Banger

Judges decided the overall winner of Chester’s Best Sausage was, for the third year running, David Joinson, who won with his pork and apple sausage. Mr Joinson, whose sausages are on show at Chester Market, took the crown, following on from his pork and blue Cheshire cheese sausage last year and his pork and leek winner in 2007.

Two traditions "Roll" into one

On Pancake Day 2009, Tuesday February 24, Chester city centre will host the eighth annual Cheese Rolling Competition. However, this year, it will be followed by a traditional Pancake Race, creating a “Flipping Fantastic” day of activities … this isn"t as cheesy as it sounds.
