Eat Well Award
Restaurants, pubs, canteens and other food premises in Chester could be in line for a special award if they offer healthy menus and maintain rigorous hygiene standards.
Chester City Council’s food safety team has joined forces with the Cheshire West Primary Care Trust in introducing the Chester and District Eat Well Award, which aims to recognise local food businesses that actively promote and practice good food hygiene standards and, where appropriate, offer healthy menus and provide smoke free areas. City councillor Mia Jones, health and well being portfolio holder said: "The award is one part of the council’s health improvement agenda aimed at encouraging healthy lifestyles and recognising local businesses that offer these choices to their customers on a daily basis. “Eating well can help prevent coronary heart disease, tooth decay and obesity. It’s also clear that more and more people are unwilling to eat in a smoke filled atmosphere because of mounting evidence that it is harmful to health.” There will be four categories of award; platinum, gold, silver and bronze, each specifying certain criteria to be achieved. The award is free and is aimed at catering businesses, public and private restaurants, cafes, pubs, takeaways, hotels, canteens, schools and hospitals. Award winning businesses are also expected to benefit from the associated media and council publicity and promotion. Details of the award scheme will be promoted at the Food and Drink festival over the Easter bank holiday. For further information contact the city council’s food safety team on 01244 402302.Ends
