Display of Romance in Chester
The Festival of Romance highlighted the talents of Chester City retailers by inviting them to take part in the Annual Festival of Romance Window Display Competition earlier this week. The winners of each category have been announced today.
City Centre stores have prepared their windows with a romantic theme and the public have made their views known both to the stores they think are the best and to Chester’s newspapers and radio stations. The competition’s judging commenced on Monday 7th until Tuesday 8th February. The winners of each category were presented with a Heart shaped trophy and a certificate today by Lord Mayor, Councillor Terry Ralph.
The two judges who choose the winners and runners up are Lawrence D Allen, manager of the Forum Shopping Centre and Sue Haslem, director of Legat Owen. The categories include Small Shops, Medium Shops, Large Stores and Business Premises.
This years winner for the small shops category, were D.P. Opyd Glass, which had two fish called Mr & Mrs -— in the window. Daisy & Tom, won the trophy for medium sized shops for having toys, teddies and books, decorated with balloons in the windows. The winner of the large stores category was The Pier, which had a "live’ window. The window of two couples in a romantic bed, feeding strawberries to each other. The poster display of romantic books won the business premises category award for Chester Library.
