New Designers Evening at Chester Zoo
The HCBC New Designers Evening at Chester Zoo showcased a wealth of talent from young/graduate fashion designers in the North West. The evening highlighted collections from designers all over Cheshire and was an opportunity for the public to experience catwalk fashion and fresh new creativity.
The evening featured the final of “The Little Black Dress” competition, where Cheshire designers were invited to create every womans wardrobe must have, the perfect L.B.D. The results saw contemporary meet classic, sexy become chic and an overall exeptional class of designs and styles.
There were nine entrants for The Little Black Dress Competition and the winning designers were Nadia Komar and Hannah Kimsey. Olivia Richards was highly commended by the judges who said ’the dress could be worn in so many different ways and was a really useful addition to any wardrobe." The judges said ’the standard of the competition was outstanding and other competitors included James Appleton, Josie Windsor, Helen Davis, Lydia , Rebecca Barker, Laura Watson and Chris Johnson and Amy Radcliffe.
Jenny Ellis, hairdresser tutor at West Cheshire College, together with Jayne Cheney, said:
“We became aware of the event relatively recently and are pleased to support such a high profile event. Students only started at College two weeks ago and this is great experience for them. It needs speed, staying power and imagination. The event is great showcase for our college students’ talents and is a great start to the College year.”
Tracy Hall, Head of Fashion at Mid Cheshire College, stated:
“Hopefully this will become an annual event. It provides an excellent opportunity for our HND Second Year and three First Year Fashion students to show what they can do. The “Company Collections” is a project the student undertakes to demonstrate how they can work creatively to a specific brief and is really challenging for our First Year students. All of our Second Year students have now gone on to complete their Third Year with Liverpool John Moores, Huddersfield, Nottingham Trent or The University of Western England. From next year, we are running a Foundation Degree in Fashion. There is a real wealth of talent within the area who work really hard. It is a very demanding career and we try to give them the skills, application and understanding they will need to succeed. One of our students, Anna Burney, has just started work with Hugo Boss. Our own Graduation Show will be held on the 21st June, 2007 and it’s already a sell out."
Chester’s Fashion 2006 is organised on behalf of Chester City Council and CHARISMA, with support from the Northwest Regional Development Agency, Visit Chester & Cheshire; the tourism board for Cheshire and Warrington, Creative Industries Support Project (CRISP), Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet, The Mall Grosvenor, The Forum Shopping Centre, Chester Zoo, HSBC, Mfm 103.4 and Trinity Mirror.
