Hunger for fashion in Chester as attendance trebles
More than 20,000 people attended Chester Fashion 2008, with hundreds of retailers in and around Chester taking part. In its third year, Chester Fashion almost trebled its figures from the 7,000 people who attended last year"s events.
Chester Fashion 2008 had more catwalk shows and special events than ever before with various large events and numerous retail outlet shows taking place at venues as diverse as The Macdonald New Blossoms Hotel, The Forum Shopping Centre, The Mall Grosvenor and Chester"s prestigious new Cruise nightclub.
The Festival proved there is a hunger for fashion in Chester with visitors attending shows and events more than four times the attendance figures when Chester Fashion launched in 2006.
Corporate support from local government agencies showed how the private and public sector could work together to showcase this vital sector within Chester. It was also a fantastic opportunity for smaller boutiques and up and coming designers to showcase their collections to the public.
Chester City Co-ordinator Stephen Wundke, who was delighted with the outcome of the weeks, said:
“Chester Fashion 2008 was without a doubt the most successful we”ve ever had, the ambience created by having shows actually on the streets of Chester was fantastic. It created a buzz around Chester that, as City Co-ordinator, I am certainly hoping to generate more of, particularly in the lead up to Christmas. Fashion is becoming a central part of Chester"s culture and we are looking to continue this with even bigger plans for Chester Fashion 2009."
Chester Fashion 2008 ran from September 13th to September 27th and formed an important part of Chester Festivals and is organised on behalf of Chester City Management and CHARISMA, with support from Visit Chester & Cheshire, Creative Industries Support Project (CRISP), The Grosvenor Shopping Centre, The Forum Shopping Centre, HSBC, Marketing Projects PR and Chester Festivals.
