The Colour Purple Packs a Full House
All eyes were down for a full house as more than 140 residents attended an inaugural celebration of older people.
Inspired by the Jenny Joseph poem, ‘Warning – When I am an old woman I shall wear purple…’, a dedicated group of Chester & District Housing Trust (CDHT) residents and housing support staff organised the first ever day for senior residents.
CDHT’s Purple Day was held at their Centurion House headquarters where John Denny, CDHT Chief Executive, was the caller for a light-hearted game of bingo which was held in the Board Room. Centurion House was bathed in purple, with purple balloons on the walls and residents, staff and volunteers all wore purple.
Mel Emery, CDHT Housing and Support Manager, said:
“This is a great example of real partnership working. Residents and staff worked side by side to organise this event and we are delighted that everyone had a great time. It just goes to show what can be done when we all work together. Our care and support services for older and vulnerable people are available to all residents living in the Chester area.”
A refreshment area was provided on the Purple Day, where tea, coffee, and a sumptuous selection of cakes were readily on demand. There was a free tombola and raffle, with glass painting with Su Bramley, Deputy Chief Executive and everyone had the opportunity of taking home a comfy pair of non-slip slippers, courtesy of Cheshire Primary Care Trust.
Other partner agencies provided information and advice from behind their stalls and the Trust’s specialist services for older residents were displayed. Entertainment was provided by Dee Sign Signing Choir, a display of Salsa dancing from Director of Finance, Andy Williams and a sing-a-long of old favourite tunes accompanied by Happy Roger on the organ, the day was regarded as a huge success.
