Fitting the pieces together - residents reveal completed mosaics
Chester & District Housing Trust (CDHT) residents have fired up their imaginations to brighten up their gardens. Residents have designed their own clay tiles and created two mosaic centrepieces in the communal areas of Leyfield Court, Lache, one of CDHT’s sheltered housing schemes.
Residents celebrated the completion of this community project, which began in January, with a summer Barbeque.
Chester based freelance artist Neil Glendinning has overseen the process and helped the residents to choose designs which would represent all of them; they include a Zodiac wheel and Roman images, drawn from Chester’s heritage.
The tiles are embedded into the grass to form circular mosaics with planting in the middle. Residents completed the tile decorations earlier in the year and Neil fired and glazed them.
Richard Johnson, one of the CDHT support officers for Leyfield Court, said:
“This has proved to be one of the most popular schemes we’ve organised; lots of residents have been really enthusiastic and wanted to get involved. The tiles look great and everyone is excited to see the finished mosaics fitted together.”
