Countdown to enter Garden Competition 2009
Green fingered residents at Cheshire West and Chester’s largest housing association are being asked to take part in their annual gardening competition.
As gardens are approaching their full summer bloom, Chester & District Housing Trust (CDHT) is highlighting the last week for CDHT residents to enter this year’s Garden Competition. Last year, there were more than 70 entries and the standard was extremely high.
First, second and third prizes for Garden Competition 2009 winners will be awarded in each of CDHT’s six neighbourhoods and an overall winner will also be announced. Categories include: Best Window Box or Balcony, Best Sheltered Scheme, Best Vegetable Garden, Young Person’s Award and Best Group of Gardens.
Organiser Sara Morley, CDHT Neighbourhood Services Manager, said:
“This is the last week that CDHT residents can enter the competition. Residents should enter and if they are at all interested in gardening they have a chance. You can also nominate a garden that you feel is a winner. We look forward to seeing residents’ beautiful gardens and a big thank you to everyone involved. It is so rewarding to see the fruits of everyone’s labours; it really improves the neighbourhoods. We are particularly encouraging children to enter the Young Person’s Award.”
The overall winner of the Garden Competition 2009 will receive an engraved trophy and a prize of £100, with an overall second prize of £50 and an overall third prize of £25. There will be a first prize of £50 for each of the six neighbourhoods, with a second prize of £25 and a third prize of £10.
Application forms for the Garden Competition 2009 are available from Centurion House, Northgate Street, Chester and from the Blacon office, The Parade, Blacon and the Lache office, Cliveden Road, Blacon. Chester & District Housing Trust (CDHT) was created in November 2000 to acquire the housing stock of Chester District Council and now owns and manages over 6,200 properties in and around Chester, employing 285 staff. The Trust’s homes fall in to six neighbourhoods – Blacon North; Blacon South; Chester City Area; The Rurals; Lache and Handbridge; Upton, Hoole, Newton and Plas Newton.
CDHT provides a range of services to tenants and residents in Chester and surrounding areas. These include ChesterCare, a telecare alarm service for CDHT tenants, other association tenants and private customers and the management of the specially designated Community Intervention Budget. This improves facilities and allows changes, which are felt by tenants to be vital to their community. CDHT also manages the housing waiting list and homelessness agency service on behalf of Chester City Council.
Current projects for CDHT include the £12million regeneration of the Treborth Road area of Chester, to include 200 new homes for rent, sale and shared ownership, as well as a village green and wildlife habitats.
