Community comes together to support Scout Hut
Funds have been donated to support improvements to a community hall on the edge of Chester.
The Christleton Scout Hut houses the 1st Christleton Scouts, 2nd Christleton Guides, as well as being used for jiu-jitsu, a pre-school play group and Church group.
Chester & District Housing Trust (CDHT) has provided £500 of funding from its rural budget to help modernise the hall and Cheshire Police has also donated £250, with the money going towards clearing out a storeroom at the front of the building which will allow for improved disabled access.
Scouts have been at the Whitchurch Road site since 1928, when there was an old wooden hut. The current building opened in 1963 and now requires modernisation, including the new disabled entrance and toilets.
Paula Marshall, CDHT Community Housing Officer, said:
“We are delighted to be working in partnership with Cheshire Police to support this worthwhile project, with funding coming from our rural community intervention budget. By bringing people together, which includes CDHT residents we hope to continue to build on the good community spirit in Christleton. We would urge people to get behind this programme of refurbishment for what is a well used and much loved community asset.”
Ron Jackson, Chairman of Christleton Scout Group, has worked with the scouts in Christleton for more than 30 years. Mr Jackson, of Boughton, added:
“We are very grateful to Chester & District Housing Trust and to Cheshire Police for their support. This is an initial phase of modernisation – we need to raise considerable further funds. Please get in touch if you can help us in any way.”
