Community Champion wins CDHT good neighbour Award
A RURAL community stalwart who champions older people has been commended by Chester & District Housing Trust (CDHT). Diane Rowland was awarded a Cheshire Rural Women’s Award for Valued Resident, which was sponsored by CDHT.
Diane has worked voluntarily on many community projects within Tattenhall, bridging age groups within the area by establishing the popular youth club as well as recently starting the new social club for the over 50’s, TOFFs.
Diane has organised many of the trips, activities and social events for the clubs, whilst being a full-time carer for her parents. Diane, 49, was nominated for the Award by CDHT residents.
Su Bramley, Deputy Chief Executive of CDHT, presented the Valued Resident Award to Diane at the ceremony at Byley Village Hall. More than 120 people attended the Awards, which included entertainment from A Handbag of Harmonies and was attended by the Sheriff of Chester Cllr Hilarie McNae and other companies including Reaseheath College and Quinn Glass.
Diane, of Smithfields, Tattenhall, said:
“Thank you to everyone who nominated me. I feel very privileged and proud to have won this Award. I was shocked to win; it is nice to be appreciated for what I do.”
Su Bramley added:
“We are delighted to support these very worthwhile Awards, which we have sponsored for the last three years. It is important to highlight valued residents and good neighbours and Diane is a very deserving winner.”
Paula Marshall, Community Housing Officer for CDHT, said:
“Diane is one of the people who pulls a community together and she is really valued. Diane is actively involved in many projects within the village, giving freely of her time and is committed to helping Tattenhall grow into a sociable community for all of its residents and its many visitors. If we had more people like Diane working in communities they would be a better place to live. Sponsoring the Award and the table at the event was all paid for by CDHT’s community intervention budget.”
Diane won a silver carriage clock, a certificate and bouquet of flowers for winning the Valued Resident Award.
Last year’s winner of the Valued Resident Award was Penny Hints of Tilston, who won the Award for saving the village shop in Tilston.
