Chester MP visits Regeneration Project
Chester MP Christine Russell met residents, councillors and builders during a walkabout of a £12.3 million regeneration project which is creating sustainable communities for the future.
Mrs Russell met with representatives from developers Chester & District Housing Trust (CDHT) and builders Lovells at the award-winning Chester Point scheme, which has reached the end of the first phase of the development.
Chester Point is a mixed housing scheme in Treborth Road, Blacon, which includes a play area and open spaces. There is also a ‘Homezone’ area where the street is equally shared with pedestrians, cyclists and motorists increasing pedestrian safety.
Speaking at Chester Point, Mrs Russell said:
“It is important there is involvement from residents at Chester Point and a long-term commitment from new residents. We are looking for people to stay and be part of the community. This was a community that no one wanted to live in before. It has a public image which is much better now with this new development.
I understand that the builders have been very considerate and responsive to the residents around the development which isn’t always the case and residents have really appreciated this.
As a consequence there is a real sense of pride about the development from everyone involved and attention to detail. The homes I’ve seen are light and spacious with well planned layouts, lots of storage and space to put things.
In lots of modern housing there is no space for children to do their homework, but the Chester Point homes have a study corner in the guest bedroom, which allows for somewhere quiet to do their homework.”
Following the demolition of 162 properties, Chester Point includes 156 new homes, consisting of two, three and four-bed homes, two-bed apartments and two-bed bungalows. These are a mixture of sale, shared ownership and rented properties; the end of the first phase marks the completion of more than 54 properties available. Building work began on the project in July 2007 and will be completed by the end of this year.
Danielle Harrison, Development Officer for CDHT, said:
“We have had a lot of interest in these properties from prospective buyers and have a limited number of three-bedroom contemporary design homes available, each comprising a quality fitted kitchen with cooker, hob and hood and a modern bathroom with bath and shower. All of the homes are extremely energy efficient and spacious.”
Dave Soothill, Assistant Director – Asset Management & Development for CDHT added;
“Investment in the properties now reaps benefit later. They all have a garden shed and water butt, with high quality fittings throughout.”
Chester & District Housing Trust in partnership with Plus Housing Group, Chester City Council, Lovell Partnerships and TASC 2000 Residents’ Association are offering a limited number of beautiful homes at affordable prices, from just £66,500 for a 3- bedroom home based on 50 per cent share. You can purchase a share in the property, for instance you purchase 50 per cent and pay a reduced rent on the remaining share of the property. You can obtain more shares in the property as and when you wish, up to 100 per cent whatever suits your circumstances.
