CDHT signs up to Energy Saving
Fuel costs for residents are being cut this winter due to Chester & District Housing Trust (CDHT)’s ongoing commitment to energy efficiency.
CDHT is working with the Energy Saving Trust in order to improve the energy efficiency of its housing stock and save residents money on their fuel bills over the winter. The Energy Saving Trust’s Home Energy Check tool will be used as part of an energy audit of each property. Each resident will receive a free Home Energy Report and energy saving tips to help cut heating costs.
Steve Lang, Manager of the Energy Saving Trust advice centre Merseyside and Cheshire, said: “The average household could reduce its energy bills by £300 a year by taking some simple measures to improve energy efficiency. We look forward to working with CDHT to help residents reduce their CO2 emissions and save money too.”
An energy efficiency officer is also being recruited at CDHT who will be available to offer energy saving advice. CDHT has committed to spending more than £2.5 million over the next three years to improve energy efficiency, which includes installing new and more efficient Band A boilers to keep resident energy costs down.
Solar panels have recently been introduced at CDHT’s rural homes, showing an ongoing commitment to reducing carbon emissions, with insulated, energy efficient homes.

“Working in partnership with the Energy Saving Trust allows us to alleviate fuel poverty for the most vulnerable residents in Cheshire. CDHT is aware of the impact that fuel prices has on our residents and is committed to an affordable warmth strategy that will make significant savings for residents. We are investing heavily in energy efficiency. This is part of our work with partners to secure funding for other energy efficiency measures to our properties. We hope all of these efforts will assist our residents throughout the winter and make a positive impact on allowing our residents to avoid fuel poverty.”
CDHT residents also have access to financial assistance via Chester Credit Union and CDHT has its own Benefits Advisor, who advises on fuel allowances.
