Apples for the Teachers of St Clare's: CDHT and Lache Neighbourhood Management help
Apple trees have been planted by pupils of St Clare’s Catholic Primary School, Lache with help from Chester & District Housing Trust (CDHT) and Lache Neighbourhood Management. The community got together to provide the trees to help pupils learn about gardening and provide much needed foliage near the school.
Bob Webb and Lee Griffiths from CDHT’s grounds maintenance team were on hand to provide a lesson on how to plant the blossoming apple trees for pupils Monica Rose (aged nine), Molly Cookson (nine) Chloe Derbyshire (11) and Joshua Jones (10). Each chose to name their respective tree Alex, Alesha, Alfie and Alena “because it was leaning towards the other trees!”
Head Teacher Terry Daltrey was on hand to ensure the operation was a success and that each was duly watered. He said;
“We are very grateful to everyone involved in sowing the seeds of an idea for a gardening club here at St Clare’s and for any help and assistance with plants, shrubs, trees and equipment. We hope that firm roots are put down, just like our pupils with their roots in the community, as we tend and nurture them while they grow and branch out.”
Sara Morley, Neighbourhood Services Manager at CDHT added:
“It.will be a couple of years before we see apples on the trees and in the staffroom but the blossom will look great every Spring from the classrooms and playground. A great way for CDHT to help put something back into local communities.”
