Lowe's were up for the Chester Cup

Chester Racecourse, the UK’s oldest racecourse, combined with one of the UK’s oldest jewellers, Lowe & Sons, which was established in 1770, as Lowe’s engraved the plinth for the major race of the May Festival the Chester Cup. The relationship between Lowe’s, of Bridge Street Row, and the Chester Race Company has been established for more than 200 years with Lowe’s continuing to supply the Chester Cup.

General Manager of Lowe & Son’s Kevin Parry said:

“Lowe and Sons is delighted to have forged this strong relationship with Chester Racecourse, which has been established for more than 200 years. Lowe’s continue to engrave the trophy and we had another fantastic race for the Chester Cup and also our own race afterwards.”

The Breitling Watches & Walton’s of Chester Handicap Stakes was run at Chester Racecourse on Wednesday May 9 and won by 50-1 outsider Temple Place. Presenting the prizes to owners Brendan Richardson and Jon Glews, trainer Donald McCain, based at Cholmondeley, and jockey Eddie Ahern, were Richard Blampied, the Managing Director of Waltons the Jewellers, Tim Bradley, the Northern Sales Manager of Breitling UK and Richard Hogben, the General Manager of Waltons the Jewellers in Chester. Breitling Watches and Waltons the Jewellers sponsored at Chester Races for the thirteenth consecutive year.

Silversmith’s Lowe’s first supplied the Chester Cup in 1804. Chester Racecourse is the oldest in Britain, with racing dating back to 1539 and the last Gold Cup was presented in 1927, with the Cup now being Silver gilt.
