CrimeWatch convictions: Statement from Waltons
Just over a year ago, Waltons of Chester appeared in BBC1’s CrimeWatch in a reconstruction of the robbery there in August 2006. Since then, the three robbers have been convicted at a hearing at Birmingham Crown Court, which ended last week. Waltons of Chester has made a major investment in increased security to their Eastgate shop, which has a new frontage.
Waltons of Chester offered its full support to Cheshire Police and the BBC TV crew for the reconstruction for BBC1’s CrimeWatch, which was aired on March 5, 2007.
Richard Hogben, General Manager of Waltons of Chester, said: “We are pleased with the convictions and would like to thank the Police for all of their hard work. Our staff have been brilliant throughout.
A wealth of information was passed on to the Police as a result of CrimeWatch and Waltons of Chester would like to take this opportunity to thank the public for their support. We received many positive and supportive comments in our shops, in Wrexham at The Cross, on Bridge Street Row and on Eastgate Street, following the programme.”
The shop front of Waltons of Chester, by the Eastgate Clock, which is the second most photographed clock in the country after Big Ben, dates back to the 1950’s and whilst the original Johnson Baker of London design idea remains, the shop has been modernised inside and out, creating an arcade feel.
