Shakespeare, Shocks and Showgirl
Forty-five students from Years 9 and 10 of The Queen’s School enjoyed a busy and varied three-day trip to London during the half-term holiday.
The girls saw Tim McInerny (Captain Darling of “Blackadder” fame) playing Shakespeare’s most famous villain Iago in the Globe Theatre production of “Othello”. This was followed by a tour exploring how the modern Globe is an exact replica of the theatre Shakespeare knew.
As a complete contrast the girls were then frightened to screaming point by Susan Hill’s atmospheric ghost story “The Woman in Black” which has been running in the West End for seventeen years. “I slept with the light on all night!” “I keep thinking she’s in the wardrobe!” and “I’ve had nightmares ever since we saw it!” were typical comments after they had been chilled by the brilliant performances of the two actors and the truly spooky atmosphere created onstage.
The Kylie Minogue exhibition in the Victoria and Albert Museum delighted both music fans and dedicated followers of fashion. A dazzling display of the superstar’s costumes from the past twenty years together with video and music clips celebrated Kylie as an icon of show business glamour and glitz.
