Daisy pulls it off
There were high jinks at The Queen’s School when the school’s senior drama club performed “Daisy Pulls It Off’ by Denise Deegan.
The tongue-in-cheek pastiche of girls’ boarding school stories contained all the characters you would expect from an Angela Brazil or Enid Blyton story – lots of thoroughly decent chaps and a few absolute rotters.
Plucky scholarship girl Daisy battles to fit in among the pupils of Grangewood School, scorned by the snobs, but respected by others for her sporting and academic talents. Along the way she hears of the school’s financial difficulties and, along with her only chum Trixie Martin, Daisy vows to seek the treasure hidden somewhere within the grounds of the school. However she has a competitor in this, Mr Scoblowski, the enigmatic Russian music teacher. Of course, all ends happily as Daisy saves the school, scores the winning goal – oh and also finds her long-lost father along the way!
Sparkling performances from the cast made for a lively and very entertaining evening and with the audience treated to refreshments of ginger beer and sticky buns, a thoroughly topping time was had by all.
“The show was a huge success” said Sara Roberts who played Daisy.
“It was great fun,” said Nicola Wilding who played Mr Scoblowski, “I hope I made Russia proud!”
The girls certainly pulled it off!
