Who's guitar will it be?
A guitar signed by Roger Daltrey CBE, frontman of The Who, is one of the prizes in a charity auction for Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT) at the Northern Design Awards 2008 on 31st May at the Chester Grosvenor Hotel. The awards celebrate top designers from the Home and Garden Show 2008 which will be held at Chester Racecourse, Friday 30th May to Sunday 1st June.
Famous for songs such as “My Generation” and “Who Are You?” Roger Daltrey CBE is a patron of Teenage Cancer Trust. The guitar is a Gibson Epiphone and is one of several prizes up for auction including a Liverpool FC shirt, as worn by Fernando Torres, during the Liverpool vs Wigan game at Anfield on the 2nd January 2008. The shirt is donated by Wigan footballer Marcus Bent, boyfriend of model and actress Gemma Atkinson. Gemma is a supporter of TCT and will be attending the Home and Garden Show and Northern Design Awards. Kutchenhaus, the German kitchen store, has also donated a ‘double your money’ store voucher; whatever the highest bid is during the charity auction, Kutchenhaus promises to double the value for the winner of the voucher to spend in store. Kutchenhaus are also giving away a luxury kitchen worth £10,000. During the three days of the Home and Garden Show 2008, every visitor will get the chance to enter the competition and the winner’s name will be selected at random on the Sunday by celebrity interior designer, Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen.

Teenage Cancer Trust is a charity devoted to helping teenagers fight cancer. Six teenagers are diagnosed with cancer each day, that’s over 2,000 every year. But these young patients don’t stop being teenagers just because they get cancer. Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT) ensures that young cancer patients get the best possible care in hospital and the chance to do all the things that other teenagers do.
TCT funds specialist teenage cancer units in NHS hospitals, with the aim being to give every young person with cancer access to a unit and improve survival rates �” TCT currently has 9 units around the country and is planning to open a further 14 units by 2012. It costs around £2million to open a new unit, all of which TCT has to raise. TCT currently has a unit at The Christie Hospital, Manchester, and Alderhey, Liverpool.
Funds are also needed to upgrade the current 13 bed unit at The Christie Hospital, which cares for young people aged between 16 and 24 years old. The refurbishment will provide a new recreational area, educational space and additional beds.
