Experts and Public Agree on Photo Competition Winner
Celebrity North West photographers have chosen the winner of a competition encouraging images of one of the most romantic cities in the world. Judges of the MCC Apple Premium Reseller event David Heke and Jaine Briscoe-Price selected their winner, which was also endorsed by a public vote online. More than 120 budding David Bailey’s entered by bringing their images to the Watergate Row based MCC Chester store.
The overall winner of the competition, which was launched on St.Valentine’s Day, was Lorraine Kay of Warrington with a photo of Chester’s Eastgate Clock. The judges described the image as “an iconic picture of Chester’ and Lorraine, who entered in the over 18 I love Chester category, won a £200 voucher for the MCC Chester store.
Lorraine, 38, said:
“I have next to no photographic experience, so I am delighted that my photo has won the competition. I borrowed a digital camera off a friend and am totally surprised and delighted to have won this competition. I might buy a digital camera myself now from the store with my vouchers. It’s great to have such an attractive place to photograph.”
Bertie Walker, 12, of Christleton and Robert Stewart, 48, of Crewe, also won iPods after entering a prize draw.

“We hope that entrants of all ages enjoyed taking their photos to enter this competition which could involve all the family. The public had the chance to vote for the overall winner online from March 3 to 14 and voted unanimously for Lorraine Kay. The photographs we received go to show that Chester provides one of the most romantic backdrops in the world. “
Chester based David Heke, who was the official photographer for The Chester Amphitheatre Project in 2004/5 and Jaine Briscoe-Price, who is establishing a studio in Holt following becoming Chairman of the North West British Institute of Professional Photographers (BIPP) in 2004, judged the competition on Saturday March 3. The best photos were displayed at Wesley Methodist Church, St. John Street, Chester from Saturday March 3 for two weeks. The winning image was also displayed on the Mac screens in the MCC Chester store. There were two categories in the competition with the themes of I love my friends and family and I love Chester.
