Numeracy and literacy adds up across the North West
The Institute of Directors (IoD) has been thanked for its support of the North West Skills for Life Strategy. Launched in March 2001, the Government scheme aims to improve adult skills in literacy, numeracy and language. The IoD played a valuable role in the consultation process; helping to ensure residents of the North West have brighter prospects in both their professional and personal lives.
The target is to raise 2.25 million adults’ literacy, numeracy or language (ESOL) skills by a level by 2010. The strategy will enhance economic progress and overall achievement for the area.
Ruth Randle, Skills Team Administrator for The Learning and Skills Council, said:
“Thanks to all Partners and Stakeholders who responded to the North West Skills for Life Strategy 2007 – 2010 consultation process. We are now pleased to inform you that the North West Region SfL Strategy has now been published.”
Laura Wolfe, Regional Director of IoD North West said:
"It's always great to be part of something that's serving the community. Improved literacy and numeracy is obviously good news for business, but these skills also bring un-quantifiable benefits to an individual's personal life."
