Are you politically savvy?
The Institute of Directors in the North West is challenging female managers throughout the region to become more politically savvy. The IoD is running a “Political Savvy for Women Seminar’ on Monday, 26 February 2007. The half day seminar will also help them learn ethical, non-manipulative strategies for increasing influence, impact and career growth.
Ann Jordan, Chairman of the IoD in the North West; “Despite excellent intentions, many female leaders are too narrowly focused on their own results and substance. Assuming that their work will speak for itself, some may become the victims of behind-the-scenes politics operating in their organisations. Many have issues engaging in corporate politics and are unfamiliar with the “Four P’s”: Power, Politics, Self-Promotion and Perception.”
She added; “I attended this seminar in Rome this year, and came away with some terrific ideas and useful tips and have decided to bring this seminar over to the UK for the benefit of women based in the North West. To be politically savvy is vital in today’s business environment. This is not to be missed”.
Tickets are available by booking online at www.iod.com/northwest/events/. Alternatively email iod.northwest@iod.com or call 0161 209 3150. The seminar is at the IoD hub in St Peter’s Square, Manchester and runs from 12 noon to 5pm and includes lunch. It costs £85 + vat for members and £115 + vat for non-members.

After attending this course, delegates will learn: - To realise the danger of ‘political blind spots’ and view the existence of organisational politics in healthier ways - To recognise the clues that indicate that they might be naïve about the area of organisational savvy and the role of politics - To understand two political power styles (‘Power of Ideas’ and ‘Power of Person’), their postures toward power and politics, their strengths and risks, and what influences them. - To avoid the pitfalls of either extreme in one’s political power style and to adopt a more balanced posture of ‘Impact with Integrity’. - One of the twelve strategies for building, promoting self and managing perceptions.
The Institute of Directors is a non-political independent organisation with 55,000 members. In addition to its wide range of business services, the IoD provides an effective voice to represent the interests of its members to government and key opinion-formers. It also brings the experience of business leaders to bear on the conduct of public affairs. More information at www.iod.com/northwest
