Hair Matters celebrates 20th anniversary

Hair Matters in Chester is celebrating its 20th anniversary. Champagne corks were popping as the Lower Bridge Street salon’s platinum anniversary was celebrated by staff last week.

Some clients have been coming to owner Richard Hall since the salon opened in 1988. Richard Hall, owner of Hair Matters attributes the salon’s success to a number of factors:

“Hair matters to everyone and our name is important now as it was to us 20 years ago. Since opening for business all those years ago I’ve seen many styles come and go and the effect a great cut has on clients. Even if you’re not in the public eye, a well designed style works wonders for your confidence and self-esteem.

The salon’s designed to be comfortable, functional and although it’s in the city centre, it’s possible to feel you are getting away from the hustle and bustle, being in a 17th Century cellar.

I enjoy working with people who have a genuine interest in hairdressing, individuals and style, and who are prepared to work as a team. I am constantly amazed by what this team here can achieve. I also enjoy working with clients who have earned the time to spend on themselves and put our success down to good communications and building a real relationship with a client.”

There are over 120 salons in Chester, but like most small businesses, half fail within in the first 5 years which makes Hair Matters’ achievement that more impressive.

Hair Matters – The Lower Bridge Street cellar salon is a spectacular backdrop for the front of stage cut and colour work. Most clients have been visiting for years, a few were original customers in 1988. The salon has a client charter and is very well respected within the profession, winning many awards over the years.

Each new client receives a complimentary consultation session to include professional advice on which style and hairdressing services will most compliment face shape, hair texture and lifestyle. Clients are also taught how to recreate the salon look at home.

Products used include the Wella System Professional range for tailor-made hair care and the salon holds a Master Colour Award. Richard was awarded his Master Colour Award in 2004 with distinction.
