Stafford Driving Centre plans withdrawn
Plans for £12 million investment at the former RAF Seighford near Stafford have been put on hold. The plans have been withdrawn by Flintshire based driveme.net Ltd. who want to expand and develop part of the airfield as a driver experience centre of excellence.
Allan Davies, director of Driveme.net Ltd. said; “We have withdrawn the plans in order that we can have reasonable time in which to address the concerns raised through the consultation process. We shall be working with Officers at Stafford Borough Council to progress towards making a viable resubmission at the very earliest opportunity. We continue to be committed to this project.”
Stafford Borough Council received 99 letters of support for Driveme’s plans; a reflection of how many see this as a positive opportunity.
Redevelopment by Driveme of the site as the Stafford Activity Centre will secure 35 existing jobs, create a further 85 new jobs, bring construction opportunities and stimulate further sustainable jobs in the leisure, tourism and service sector markets within the local area. It will also give Stafford a world class driving and leisure destination.

Driveme’s current operations at Seighford are from a collection of portable buildings, in a corner of the airfield. Directors at Driveme are keen to make a positive difference to the old airfield. Their plans include a low carbon, eco-friendly and state of the art hospitality hub centre, a replacement maintenance hanger building, multi-use vehicle tracks, extensive natural sound deadening acoustic bunds, enhanced nature conservation and wildlife habitats & extensive landscaping proposals and more accessible and user friendly rights of way.
The central hub building will be able to be used by the local community as a conference and meeting facility, with schools and college involvement too.
The location and site will demonstrate a world-class example of building design and low carbon use technology. Eco-award-winning architects White Design are working on the project.
driveme.net Ltd. provides professionally guided driving experiences for the general public and corporate driving days for team building and client invitation. Seighford airfield will continue in use as an emergency landing strip and as a base for gliders and light aircraft. It has been used for over 10 years for motor vehicle testing, experience and demonstration purposes.
